In the wake of Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's scary concussion last Thursday, former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith joined Pablo Torre on the "ESPN Daily" podcast to discuss the NFL's concussion protocol and his own history with concussions. Smith famously suffered a concussion with the 49ers in 2012 and was replaced by Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick played so well in his absence that then-Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh made him the permanent starter.
"I feel like I'm only just starting to reach my potential and we're playing the Rams," Smith recalled. "I took a really unnecessary, but a great, hit to the back of the head," Smith said.
