Former San Francisco 49ers great Kermit Alexander, 75, has been telling his life story in a gripping memoir, "The Valley of the Shadow of Death," which was published earlier this year and revolves around the personal journey he took after his mother, sister and two nephews were viciously gunned down in a 1984 home invasion in South Los Angeles in what turned out to be a gang hit that targeted the wrong house. Alexander, an All-Pro and former president of the NFL Players Association, played for the 49ers in the 1960s, and his hard-hitting athletic game was considered a precursor to 49ers legend Ronnie Lott's.
