SAN JOSE -- The attorneys defending former San Francisco 49er Dana Stubblefield against charges he raped a mentally disabled woman launched a media offensive Tuesday, accusing the Santa Clara County District Attorney of seeking political gain, and dismissing the alleged victim's disability as a ploy to get money.
Sources familiar with the case countered that the accuser has been diagnosed as developmentally disabled and has received state services because of her condition. In a news conference at the Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, where he is a member of the congregation, Stubblefield defended himself against charges of rape and forced oral copulation of a person incapable of giving consent, and false imprisonment.
