More than 30 of Dwight Clark’s teammates from the 1981 49ers will be on hand to honor him Sunday.
And so will one of his opponents from the 1981 Cowboys.
Everson Walls, the rookie cornerback whom Clark skied over to make The Catch on Jan. 10, 1982, is scheduled to be a part of “Dwight Clark Day” at Levi’s Stadium when the 49ers host the Cowboys.
Clark, of course, revealed in March that he has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a terminal disease that affects control of muscles needed to move, speak, eat and breathe.
It’s a classy gesture by Walls, 57, whose role in one of the most famous plays in NFL history has partly obscured the many plays he made in his 13-year career: Walls, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, ranks 13th in NFL history in interceptions (57) and is one of two players to lead the league in picks in three seasons.
