SANTA CLARA – Safety Eric Reid was re-elected as the 49ers’ union representative, the NFL Players Association announced on Thursday.
Wide receiver Torrey Smith and tight end Vance McDonald were voted as the co-alternates to Reid.
Reid was first elected as the 49ers’ player rep last year after just his second season in the NFL. Reid last week joined quarterback Colin Kaepernick in taking a knee during the playing of the national anthem as a protest against police brutality and the oppression of minorities in America. He said the protest had nothing to do with his role with the union.
