SANTA CLARA — The Eric Reid linebacker experiment is over after one week due to the technicality of Jimmie Ward’s season-ending arm fracture, and Reid will return to the vacant strong safety spot on Sunday when the 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals.
Reid is definitely happy about that, but he admitted he enjoyed the brief position change, while defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said the fifth-year safety might have a bright future at outside linebacker if he had the opportunity to learn more nuances of the position.
“I thought he was awesome,” Saleh said of Reid’s work in a 33-10 loss at Philadelphia.
