The day after the Super Bowl is the first day teams can release players currently under contract following the end of their own season. The Philadelphia Eagles quickly got going, announcing the release of wide receiver Riley Cooper.

Cooper finished the season with 21 receptions for 327 yards and two touchdowns. He had signed a 5-year contract extension in 2014, but all his guaranteed money came off the books after this past season. The Eagles will save $2.9 million in cap space, taking a $2.4 million dead money hit for the coming season.

Cooper has been in the spotlight for some time in Philadelphia.
