Oh, sure, he also established an NFL record for career passing yards, doing the deed with a 62-yard touchdown pass to Tre’Quan Smith. But the truly amazing part of this record-shattering experience was his ability to memorize and articulate the play call that allowed Brees to eclipse Peyton Manning’s career total of 71,940 passing yards.
Asked the name of the play by ESPN’s enterprising Lisa Salters, Brees inhaled a chest full of oxygen and said: “Gun king, trips right, terrapin 52 sway, all go special, X shallow cross, H wide.
