If there’s any justice in this world, Mark Wahlberg says a little prayer for 49ers running back great Roger Craig before one of his six daily meals.
It was Craig, after all, who pioneered the practice (later embraced by Wahlberg) of male models wearing nothing but a pair of Calvins.
Craig’s infamous underwear ad caused a nation to stir. It was also, coincidentally (or less so if you believe in divine intervention against risque photo shoots), the beginning of the end of one of San Francisco’s greatest sports dynasties.
For those who missed out, on June 18, 1990, subscribers to the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Francisco Examiner were treated to a three-quarter page spread of the four-time Pro Bowl running back almost all the way au naturel.
