With so many 49ers greats willing to present him at his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction this summer, Eddie DeBartolo Jr. opted for none of the above. Instead, the beloved former owner confirmed Tuesday that his oldest daughter, Lisa, will do the honors at the ceremony Aug. 6 in Canton, Ohio.
"It was kind of an easy choice," DeBartolo said. But he allowed that things might have been different if a certain white-haired coach had lived to see this day. Bill Walsh, who launched the 49ers dynasty after DeBartolo hired him in 1979, died in 2007."God rest his soul, if Bill would have been alive, I probably would have asked Bill to do it," DeBartolo said.
