Thanks to some offseason film study, the senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach of the San Francisco 49ers figured out a way to boost the confidence and on-field performance of one of his pupils.
Jason Tarver, the aforementioned coach, broke down the tape of the linebackers he inherited and came away with one distinct takeaway from watching third-year linebacker Corey Lemonier, who saw his playing time and production declined last year.
Tarver's conclusion? Lemonier's footwork was off.
“J.T. pointed out that I would take false steps so many times,” Lemonier said of his pass-rushing get-offs.
