Chip Kelly says he won’t name his starting quarterback — or any other position — for Sunday’s preseason opener until he sees how the 49ers emerge from Friday’s practice with the Houston Texans.
But Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick will both see first-team action this exhibition season, Kelly said Wednesday prior to the 49ers’ practice at Kezar Stadium. Kelly declined to stay whether each will get a chance to start in the preseason.
“We have a big week,” Kelly said. “You can say this guy starts, then he sprains his ankle in Friday’s practice and then you’ve got to re-evaluate.
