Possibly signaling the end of Colin Kaepernick's tenure in San Francisco, the 49ers surprisingly placed the struggling quarterback on injured reserve, ending his season.
The 49ers announced QB Dylan Thompson has been promoted from the practice squad to San Francisco's active roster.
On Wednesday, Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group reported Kaepernick was listed on the 49ers' injury report with a left (non-throwing) shoulder injury. Kaepernick told reporters, per Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, on Friday that the injury dates back to San Francisco's Week 4 loss against the Green Bay Packers.
