Former 49ers Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid will be forever linked.
Throughout the 2016 season, they both took a knee during the national anthem to protest social injustices.
Kaepernick remained unsigned when he became a free agent following the 2016 season. Reid's contract with the 49ers expired following the 2017 season, and he remained unsigned throughout the summer.
On Thursday, that all changed as the Carolina Panthers signed Reid to a one-year contract.
About 90 minutes after the Panthers announced the deal with the veteran safety, Kaepernick posted a congratulatory message on Twitter.
