San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey is out for Monday night's season opener against the Jets because of a lingering calf and Achilles injury, the team announced.
The team announced the news when releasing their inactive list, just 90 minutes before kickoff. Bay Area News Group's Cam Inman was first to report that McCaffrey would be listed as inactive.
Earlier in the week, McCaffrey replied to a question about whether he had any doubt if he'd play with a one-word answer: "No."
