The 49ers inactives are out, and they’ll be without the reigning Offensive Player of the Year. Christian McCaffrey is inactive after testing out his calf during pre-game warm ups.
That means the 49ers will lean heavily on Jordan Mason behind him his Patrick Taylor Jr., a third down back who was excellent in pass protection but didn’t offer much in the running game. There’s also Isaac Guerendo, who is a rookie and also has battled injuries during training camp.
How much the 49ers pivot to a true dropback passing team without McCaffrey and lean on Deebo Samuel in McCaffrey’s absence on short throws is something to keep an eye on.
