The San Francisco 49ers signed Christian Ponder on Tuesday, giving them some much needed camp depth. Colin Kaepernick has not thrown in practice since Wednesday, and Thad Lewis tore his ACL on Sunday. Ponder is not exactly a good quarterback, but he’ll be in camp to compete with Blaine Gabbert and Jeff Driskel. At the very least, he gives the team another arm for Saturday’s game against the Denver Broncos.
In signing Ponder, the 49ers now have three quarterbacks from the 2011 NFL Draft on their roster. Gabbert was selected No. 10 overall, Ponder was No. 12, and Kaepernick was No.
