SAN FRANCISCO — After stepping away from her instantly infamous plaque and before her induction speech Monday night, soccer star Brandi Chastain took a moment night to reflect on her life-changing goal.
The epic penalty-kick winner in the 1999 World Cup? Sure, there was that one, too. But I asked Chastain if she had a second-favorite goal.
“Oh, yes,” she said without hesitation. “I was under-12 playing at Steinbeck Elementary in San Jose. We were playing the San Jose Rovers and they were probably one of our fiercest competitors.”
Soccer icon Brandi Chastain was gracious as she commented on her honorary plaque which didn’t quite resemble her during the San Francisco Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame induction at the Westin St.
