Niners outside linebacker Aldon Smith is a dominant pass-rusher whose career has been marked by sacks and erratic off-the-field behavior.
In other words, he has quite a bit in common with Charles Haley.
Haley, 51, spoke on a national conference call this morning in advance of his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 7. And one of the questions he fielded concerned Smith, with whom he’s bonded, in part because of their similar career paths.
Haley, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after his 13-year career, was traded by the 49ers to the Cowboys after his sixth season following a series of confrontations with teammates and coaches.
