Bay Area sociologist Harry Edwards headed to Miami for Super Bowl LIV worried about distractions.
“Every Super Bowl always has some issue that could derail their focus,” said Edwards, who for 33 years has worked as the 49ers’ consultant dealing with social issues. “That starts long before the team gets on the plane to go to the Super Bowl.”

Edwards, 77, said he felt good about the 2019 49ers’ chances because they have been built in the mold that former coaching great Bill Walsh would approve.
Edwards credited chief executive Jed York with creating the kind of championship culture he said Walsh used to promote in leading the 49ers to three Super Bowl titles.
