It’s not a matter of “if” but “when.” The NFL is and has consistently trended toward playing more games. Recently, commissioner Roger Goodell was asked about the potential for an 18-game regular season in the long-term future. Here’s what he said:
“The key thing for us is looking at making sure we continue to do the things that make our game safer. Seventeen games is a long season, so we want to make sure we look at that and make sure that we continue safety efforts.”
Goodell didn’t say an 18-game schedule was imminent but did admit that the NFL is considering adding another game down the line.
