If the Houston Texans somehow make star quarterback Deshaun Watson available via trade, it seems likely the San Francisco 49ers would jump all over it.
To be clear, the likeliest scenario is still that Watson — reportedly disgruntled after team ownership broke promises to him that he would be involved in the team's general manager and head coach hiring searches — works things out with new GM Nick Caserio and stays in Houston.
But Watson has reportedly "quietly broached with teammates the possibility of requesting a trade," and if things escalate further (a scenario that can't be dismissed out of hand since he plays for a team owner who once called his players "inmates," and later said he regretted apologizing for it), 49ers fans can expect general manager John Lynch to not only enter the sweepstakes but also make an aggressive offer.
