On Friday, the 49ers released inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who had replaced Brooks as the player with the second-most years of service.
Given those transactions, and plenty of lesser-wattage moves made during the new regime’s roster overhaul, a logical question was posed Friday to the man who now assumes the uneasy title of player with the second-most tenure on the roster: How are you feeling about your job security, Daniel Kilgore?
“It’s the NFL for a reason,” the starting center said.
