49ers WR DeAndre Smelter one to watch as Chip Kelly joins coaches on field

Chip Kelly and the 49ers’ overhauled coaching staff make their practice-field debut Monday, and although Blaine Gabbert will merit attention as the potential starting quarterback, one of his wide receivers should, too.

DeAndre Smelter is the most unknown commodity anxious to make a first impression on the new staff.

A year ago, Smelter and his 11-inch hands – the largest in the draft – got selected in the fourth round. He spent his rookie year recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left knee, for a torn anterior cruciate ligament that halted this rising star’s career at Georgia Tech.
