Marcus Martin, a third-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2014 NFL Draft, was forced into duty as starting center since Daniel Kilgore went down with a severe ankle injury sustained in the 2014 season.
While Martin is a valuable and versatile offensive lineman, he has not yet shown the chops to be a quality starter. With the 49ers bringing in Zane Beadles from Jacksonville in their only somewhat-significant free agent signing, it appears unlikely that Martin, a guard/center, will be in a starting role this fall.
