Erik Pears was brought to the San Francisco 49ers last offseason as a backup option at right tackle. Theoretically, the former Bill, Jaguar, Raider, and Bronco was supposed to be a reserve right tackle behind Anthony Davis.
That all changed when Davis announced his shocking “temporary” retirement on June 6, 2015. While Anthony Davis wants to return to the NFL — and while the 49ers could clearly use his services — it appears Davis adamantly refuses to play for the 49ers organization. The one thing that could get him to return is the requirement that he pay back the signing bonus allotted for 2016, like he did for the 2015 portion.
