SANTA CLARA – Seven years ago, the 49ers beat the Atlanta Falcons for a Super Bowl berth.
Sunday, beating the Falcons would lock up merely a playoff berth, and that starting point is certainly welcome after the 49ers’ five-year postseason drought.
“We’re in a good spot as a team,” quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said. “I like where we’re sitting and everything, kind of control our own destiny. That’s where you want to be in December.”
The 49ers (11-2) survived a Superdome thriller last Sunday with a 48-46 win at New Orleans, and that installed them atop the NFC playoff picture, where they can stay there if they win their remaining three games.
