After an injury-riddled end to training camp, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch decided to keep the team’s starters on the sideline for the Niners’ opening game of the 2019 NFL preseason.
On Wednesday, the 49ers lost first-round draft pick Nick Bosa to a “serious” ankle sprain that will keep the 2019 NFL Draft’s top edge rusher sidelined throughout the preseason, and potentially a portion of the regular season. Cornerback Jason Verrett also injured his ankle during the same practice, and is on a similar timetable to return to action for San Francisco
Last year, 49ers starting running back and expensive free-agent acquisition Jerick McKinnon sustained a season-ending knee injury just days prior to the beginning of the 2018 regular season.
