When the San Francisco 49ers beat the visiting Dallas Cowboys to kick off the 2019 NFL preseason, head coach Kyle Shanahan elected not to play the vast majority of his starters. Many of his primary backups were rested, too.
This is the norm for an opening exhibition weekend. Yet the Niners’ scenario changes in Week 2 of the preseason, as Shanahan and Co. travel to Denver to take on the Broncos on Monday, Aug. 19.
San Francisco will also partake in joint practices with the Broncos leading up to Monday’s contest. Additionally, the 49ers will likely feature their starters and many of their veterans for at least the first few drives in Denver.
