SANTA CLARA – Linebacker Malcolm Smith and cornerback Jimmie Ward returned to limited practice on Wednesday.
The 49ers held their first full practice in advance of the season opener on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, and only reserve offensive lineman Erik Magnuson (hamstring) was unable to take part in some fashion.
Smith had been out since the 49ers’ first preseason game on Aug. 9 due to a hamstring strain. He is scheduled to start alongside rookie Fred Warner while Reuben Foster serves a two-game suspension.
Ward sustained a hamstring injury on Aug. 25 in a preseason game against Indianapolis.
