Center Daniel Kilgore’s unavailability in recent years could explain the 49ers’ most recent acquisition.
After the signing 11 free agents last week, the 49ers traded for Ravens center Jeremy Zuttah, 30, on Tuesday. Zuttah came at a modest cost: The 49ers swapped sixth-round picks with Baltimore, moving down 12 spots (from No. 186 to No. 198) in that round.
Zuttah has served as the Ravens’ starting center for the past three seasons and will presumably compete for first-string status with Kilgore, 29, who has missed 23 games since 2014 because of a broken ankle and torn hamstring.
