His name is Earl. According to Matt Barrows of he Athletic, the San Francisco 49ers intend to sign a familiar face to the defensive roster. Defensive tackle Earl Mitchell last played with the Niners in 2018 and was released entering this season.
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound product from Arizona was taken by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft where he spent four years. Afterward, Mitchell spent three years with the Miami Dolphins before being picked up by San Francisco in 2017.
During his tenure with the 49ers, Mitchell played in 30 games and racked up 61 tackles, five tackles for loss and logged six quarterback hits.
