The San Francisco 49ers are going to move on from their No. 1 wide receiver, Torrey Smith, after two disappointing seasons in Santa Clara.
And by No. 1, we mean in name alone.
Retired wide receiver Steve Smith, now with NFL Network, was first to break the news Torrey Smith was to be cut (h/t Frank Schwab of Yahoo! Sports). CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco later confirmed the reports, via a source, the Niners had indeed informed Smith he was cut.
Smith signed with San Francisco on a five-year, $40 million contract before the 2015 season.
