The San Francisco 49ers are adding another assistant to Kyle Shanahan’s coaching staff. The team is expected to hire former NFL wide receiver Miles Austin to serve as offensive quality control coach, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. He is replacing T.C. McCartney, according to Matt Maiocco. McCartney departed for the Denver Broncos to serve as quarterbacks coach under new offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello.
Austin retired from the NFL following the 2015 season. He spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons working in the Dallas Cowboys’ scouting department. He interviewed for their vacant wide receivers coach position last year, but did not get it.
