CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In a bit of a surprise, 49ers rookie tackle John Theus is inactive for today’s game with the Panthers.
It was expected that the fifth-round pick would be active with swing tackle Anthony Davis out with a concussion sustained in practice Thursday. The 49ers’ backup offensive linemen for today’s game are guard/center Marcus Martin and rookie guard Joshua Garnett, the No. 28 overall pick. Garnett is making his debut on the 46-man roster after he was inactive in Week 1.
The 49ers would presumably move left guard Zane Beadles to tackle today if Joe Staley or Trent Brown are sidelined.
