49ers take DE Ronald Blair, OT John Theus in fifth round

Despite being the league’s lowest-scoring team last season, the 49ers turned to defense for the fourth time in five draft picks when they selected defensive end Ronald Blair in the fifth round.

Three spots later in the same round, the 49ers turned their attention back to the offensive line and drafted John Theus, a 6-foot-6 offensive tackle from Georgia.

Blair (6-foot-2, 284 pounds) hails from Appalachian State, the alma mater of 49ers center Daniel Kilgore, a 2011 fifth-round draft pick.

Blair ranked fourth among 3-4 defensive ends last season with 50 stops, according to ProFootballFocus.com, which had 49 stops for 49ers first-round pick DeForest Buckner at Oregon.
