49ers sue to block Santa Clara’s attempt to end Levi’s management

SANTA CLARA — The San Francisco 49ers filed a lawsuit Friday to block an attempt by the city of Santa Clara to end their management of non-football events at Levi’s Stadium.

The lawsuit comes after the city council voted Tuesday evening to end the 49ers’ management agreement, effective November 15, arguing the team misrepresented its experience in managing “public assembly facilities” and has violated city and state rules governing public contracts and prevailing wage. The action would end the 49ers’ management and operation of the stadium for events unrelated to National Football League games and activities.
