Acquired last week in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, Gerald Hodges didn’t suit up for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in New York.
But the linebacker’s inactive status wasn’t an indication of any buyer's remorse. Rather, there was just too little time for Hodges to assimilate into a new defense before the Week 5 matchup.
With the Vikings, Hodges played in a 4-3 scheme. The 49ers, however, use a 3-4 base.
“He’s a bright guy, and he’s got some energy to him,” Jim Tomsula said on Wednesday. “We’ve only known each other for a week, but you like the way the guy handles himself coming in and moving around.
