Left tackle Joe Staley has an orbital fracture, but his facial injury will not require surgery he learned after he was examined at a Philadelphia hospital following the 49ers’ 33-10 loss to the Eagles on Sunday.
Staley, who stayed overnight at the team hotel, was on a flight this morning that included Chronicle colleague Ann Killion and had sunglasses to cover his swollen right eye. Staley had a gash under his right eye that did not require stitches. It was glued shut.
Staley was injured in the second quarter when he was leveled by defensive tackle Fletcher Cox during cornerback Jalen Mills’ 37-yard interception return for a touchdown.
