49ers sign rookie Fred Warner to 4-year deal

The San Francisco 49ers signed another member of their rookie class to his four-year contract. Linebacker Fred Warner is now signed through the 2021 season, and according to Over The Cap, will receive a signing bonus somewhere near $1,010,188.

As a third round pick, Warner will be eligible for the proven performance escalator. The PPE was added to the 2011 collective bargaining agreement as a way for draft picks in rounds three through seven to earn some extra money. It is based on snap count, and if a certain threshold is met in the first three years of a rookie contract, a player automatically gets a pay raise in year four.
