The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed QB Christian Ponder to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team has placed QB Thad Lewis on the Injured Reserve List.
Originally the 12th overall draft pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, Ponder (6-2, 230) has appeared in 38 games (36 starts), completing 632 passes for 6,658 yards and 38 touchdowns, and 26 rushes for 639 yards and seven touchdowns, during his time in Minnesota (2011-14). Ponder signed with the Oakland Raiders on March 13, 2015, and spent training camp with the team before being released on September 5, 2015.
