Week 1 wasn’t particularly kind to the San Francisco 49ers on the injury front.
Amid the Niners’ 24-16 road loss to the Minnesota Vikings were a slew of injuries on both sides of the ball, namely to offensive guards Joshua Garnett (foot) and Mike Person (foot), as well as linebacker Brock Coyle (concussion).
Coyle’s concussion was apparently more serious than initially anticipated. The fifth-year veteran, who was starting at the WILL linebacker spot, suffered his head injury in the second half and did not return. And with San Francisco desperately short at linebacker — Reuben Foster (suspension) and Malcolm Smith (hamstring) — the team elected to make a move to supplement the depth at the two newly thin positions.
