With incumbent Bradley Pinion entering the final year of his four-year contract, the 49ers added another punter Monday.
The team announced the signing of Jeff Locke, who averaged 45.3 yards per punt over five games for Detroit last season before the Lions released him in October.
Pinion averaged 43.7 yards per punt for the 49ers last season. He’s scheduled for a base salary of $705,000 for 2018, according to SportRac.com, while carrying a cap hit of $753,550.
Locke, a three three-time All-Pac 12 selection while at UCLA, was originally a fifth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2013.
