The San Francisco 49ers are short on running backs with Christian McCaffrey sidelined for a couple of weeks with a calf strain and Elijah Mitchell dealing with a hamstring injury.
Ahead of Wednesday’s practice, the team announced the signing of wide receiver Jontre Kirklin and running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn to one-year deals. The corresponding moves to make room were to release safety Erik Harris and waived/injured wideout Terique Owens—who left practice early on Tuesday with an apparent injury.
Kirklin (6-0, 184) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022.
