49ers’ Shanahan uses Sherman’s practice lowlight as coaching point

Two days after Richard Sherman was burned badly on a deep route by Marquise Goodwin in a 1-on-1 drill, Kyle Shanahan used the cornerback as an example during a team meeting before today’s practice.

But it wasn’t to criticize him.

Instead, Shanahan praised Sherman for his practice approach.

The context is Sherman, 30, was participating in his first padded practice since he sustained a torn Achilles in November, lined up against Goodwin, one of the league’s fastest players, and crowded him at the line of scrimmage.

For Shanahan, it was an example of a player testing himself and not being afraid to fail.
