After calling out a teammate with his on-field gesturing, 49ers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon was called out by head coach Kyle Shanahan after a 27-23 loss to the Giants on Monday night.
In the third quarter, Witherspoon was in coverage Odell Beckham Jr.’s 20-yard touchdown catch and he immediately raised his arms in anger and frustration as Beckham began celebrating. Witherspoon’s issue: He expected to receive coverage help from safety Antone Exum, who was about 10 yards away.
Shanahan was asked if he was OK with Witherspoon’s response.
“No, I am not,” Shanahan said. “No. Man up.
