Of the 20 teams that have scored 500 points in NFL history, only five have won a title: The 2009 Saints, 1999 Rams, 1998 Broncos and 1994 49ers won Super Bowls, and the 1961 Oilers won the AFL championship.
This season, the Falcons, who scored 540 points, could join that group if they beat the Patriots in Super Bowl LI.
If they win, Atlanta offensive coordinator and the 49ers’ presumptive head coach Kyle Shanahan will have something else in common with his dad, Mike Shanahan, who was part of two of those four high-scoring Super Bowl champions: Mike Shanahan was the 49ers offensive coordinator in 1994 and the Broncos head coach in 1998.
