SANTA CLARA — Shedding the roster to 53 worthy players is the 49ers task over the next day, and they’re launching that purge Friday.
“I don’t want guys lingering around,” coach Kyle Shanahan said after Thursday’s exhibition finale. “We’re not going to make guys wait if we already know. The stuff that’s for sure, we’ll get done right away. But obviously, there’s going to be some stuff that comes down to the wire.”
Shanahan noted the final cuts weren’t as tough to make a year ago, after the 49ers inherited a 2-14 roster.
