49ers' Robert Saleh declares open competition at cornerback in camp

SANTA CLARA -- Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley worked his way from defying the odds as an undrafted rookie to a year later lining up as a starter for the 49ers in the Super Bowl.

But if Moseley is going to hang onto the starting job opposite of All-Decade cornerback Richard Sherman, he is going to have to earn it.

Moseley, Ahkello Witherspoon and Jason Verrett have taken turns lining up with the 49ers’ first-team defense during the early portion of training camp. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is waiting for a leader to emerge.

“Obviously, we'd like to see a competition over there,” Saleh said Tuesday on a video call with Bay Area reporters.
