No San Francisco 49ers fan would soon forget what happened in the waning moments of the 2014 NFC Championship game, as the Niners lost to their hated NFC West division rivals, the Seattle Seahawks, who would eventually go on to win Super Bowl XLVIII.
That fade pass from then-quarterback Colin Kaepernick to wide receiver Michael Crabtree, deflected by now-49ers cornerback Richard Sherman and into the waiting arms of now-49ers linebacker Malcolm Smith.
Crabtree understandably tossed Sherman’s handshake attempt aside right after the play, realizing San Francisco would be denied a trip to the Super Bowl.
